The Overwatch League 2020 season is shaping up to be even more exciting than last year. With millions in prize money on the line, each team has done their best to beef up their roster in the off season. Let’s take a closer look at the Overwatch League Teams of 2020.
Will the San Francisco Shock become back-to-back World Champions, or will the heavily favorited New York Excelsior come out ahead? Only time will tell, so check back in with us for the latest in Overwatch news, roster updates, and more!
Atlantic Division
Atlanta Reign
- League Standing: #6
- Match Record: 16W-12L
- Roster: BABYBAY, MASAA, ERSTER, DACO, POKPO, GATOR, DOGMAN, FRD, HAWK, EDISON, SHARP
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Good
The Atlanta Reign went 1-2 in the 2019 Overwatch League playoffs, but that sole victory over the San Francisco shock was impressive, since the Shock went on to become the 2019 Overwatch League Champions. That means the #6 in League Standing Atlanta Reign have a better chance than you might think at becoming League Champions in 2020.
Boston Uprising
- League Standing: #19
- Match Record: 8W-20L
- Roster: MUNCHKIN, COLOURHEX, AXXIOM, FUSIONS, MYUNBONG, JERRY, MOUFFIN, SWIMMER, BRUSSEN
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Fair
The Boston Uprising is owned by the Kraft Group, who also own the New England Patriots and the New England Revolution. So, you might say that the Boston Uprising are their third-most promising team. They’ve completely revamped their lineup, so expect Boston Uprising to move up in the ranks in 2020.
Florida Mayhem
- League Standing: #20
- Match Record: 6W-22L
- 2020 Roster: FATE, SAYAPLAYER, BQB, KRIS, BYREM, KARAYAN, GARGOYLE, GANGNAMJIN, YAKI
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Fair
The Florida Mayhem are making all the right moves for 2020. They’ve overhauled their coaching team and added some new faces to the player roster as well. I hope they qualify for the Overwatch League playoffs in 2020, but at the very least I expect them to climb up out of last place next year.
Houston Outlaws
- League Standing: #16
- Match Record: 9W-19L
- 2020 Roster: SPREE, RAWKUS, COOLMATT, DANTEH, MUMA, BOINK, LINKZR, HYDRATION, MEKO, BLASE, RAPEL
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Fair
The Houston Outlaws are another team I was sad to see not make the Overwatch League playoffs. Like the Florida Mayhem, the Outlaws have replaced their coaching staff and made some trades in advance on the 2020 season.
London Spitfire
- League Standing: #7
- Match Record: 16W-12L
- 2020 Roster: KRILLIN, HIGHLY, GLISTER, FUZE, BERNAR, SCHWI, SANGUINAR, JMAC
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Good
The London Spitfire took 1st place in 2018 and fought valiantly in the 2019 Overwatch League playoffs. The Spitfire posted a solid W-L record in the 2019 regular season and will certainly be a team to reckon with in 2020.
New York Excelsior
- League Standing: #2
- Match Record: 22W-6L
- 2020 Roster: MANO, SAEBYEOLBE, JJONAK, LIBERO, HOTBA, ANAMO, NENNE, BIANCA, MANDU, WHORU
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Excellent
2020 may very well be the year that the New York Excelsior become champions of the Overwatch League. The NYXR are the most dominant team in the Atlantic League and lost to both the winner and the runner up of the 2019 Overwatch League playoffs. Will their burning desire for revenge be enough to take them to the top?
Paris Eternal
- League Standing: #14
- Match Record: 11W-17L
- 2020 Roster: SOON, GREYY BENBEST, NOSMITE, HYP, NICOGDH, KRUISE, SP9RK1E, XZI, HANBIN
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Poor
The Paris Eternal failed to qualify for the Overwatch League 2019 playoffs, posting a painful 11-17 W-L record for the season. The Eternal fought hard, but at every Stage they fell short. They need to take advantage of the new meta and use 2020 as a rehab season.
Philadelphia Fusion
- League Standing: #10
- Match Record: 15W-13L
- 2020 Roster: BOOMBOX, EQO, CARPE, FURY, POKO, SADO, IVY, FUNNYVASTRO, ALARM
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Fair
Full disclosure: the Philadelphia Fusion are my hometown team. As a fan I always think that they have a chance at the title, even if reality disagrees. The Fusion did have a fairly impressive 2019 season however, with a positive W-L record and only getting eliminated in the Stage 4 Quarterfinals.
Toronto Defiant
- League Standing: #17
- Match Record: 8W-20L
- 2020 Roster: MANGACHU, KELLEX, LOGIX, AGILITIES, SUREFOUR, NEVIX, KARIV, ROKY, BEAST
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Fair
Tied in 17th place in league standing with the Washington Justice, the Toronto Defiant have a lot to improve upon in 2020. The Defiant made it into the Overwatch League Stage 1 playoffs in 2019, earning their first cash prize in a first-round loss to the San Francisco Shock. Maybe that cash infusion will give them the drive they need to stack up some W’s in 2020.
Washington Justice
- League Standing: #17
- Match Record: 8W-20L
- 2020 Roster: ARK, AIMGOD, ROAR, STRATUS, COREY, ELLIVOTE, LULLSISH, TTUBA
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Good
Although they finished the 2019 Overwatch League season a humble 17th in league standing, that doesn’t capture the whole story for the Washington Justice. In Stage 4 the Justice was one of the best teams at adapting to the newly enforced 2-2-2 role lock, and scored some impressive upset victories. They came within one match of qualifying for the 2019 Overwatch League playoffs, so I expect they’ll be contenders again in 2020.

Pacific Division
Chengdu Hunters
- League Standing: #12
- Match Record: 13W-15L
- 2020 Roster: YANGXIAOLONG, KYO, GARRY, LATEYOUNG, ELSA, JINMU, BACONJACK, JIQIREN
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Poor
The Chengdu Hunters are one of the expansion Overwatch League teams new to the scene in 2019. They posted an average W-L record and they failed to qualify for the playoffs. With the loss of their head coach in the off season, unfortunately I don’t have high hopes for the Chengdu Hunters in 2020.
Dallas Fuel
- League Standing: #15
- Match Record: 10W-18L
- 2020 Roster: TAIMOU, HARRYHOOK, MICKIE, UNKOE, AKM, GAMSU, NOTE, CLOSER, DECAY, ZACHAREEE, TRILL.
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Poor
The Dallas Fuel has an absolute meat grinder for the first leg of the Overwatch 2020 Regular Season. Playing in the dominant Pacific League, I don’t have much hope for the Dallas Fuel making the playoffs or even advancing their overall league standing in 2020. They need to take this year and focus on reversing that W-L record.
Guangzhou Charge
- League Standing: #9
- Match Record: 15W-13L
- 2020 Roster: NEPTUNO, NERO, CHARA, EILEEN, HAPPY, RIO, SHU, CRONG
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Good
The Guangzhou Charge made it to the Semifinals in 2019 before losing out to the Seoul Dynasty. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them make it to the playoffs in 2020.
Hangzhou Spark
- League Standing: #4
- Match Record: 18W-10L
- 2020 Roster: GUXUE, ADORA, RIA, BAZZI, GODSB, IDK, BEBE, SASIN
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Excellent
Despite a first-round loss to the LA Gladiators, the Hangzhou Spark made a really impressive run through the loser’s bracket of the 2019 Overwatch League Playoffs. They only lost in Round 3 to the Shock, who went on to win the whole tournament. The Spark have also made a lot of player moves in the off season, so overall, I think prospects are great for seeing them go far in the playoffs in 2020.
Los Angeles Gladiators
- League Standing: #5
- Match Record: 17W-11L
- 2020 Roster: SHAZ, BIGGOOSE, SPACE, OGE, BIRDRING, MIRROR, PAINTBRUSH, BISCHU, LHCLOUDY, JARU
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Excellent
The Los Angeles Gladiators had a very similar 2019 to the Hangzhou Spark. They posted close to the same W-L record, and both were defeated by the San Francisco Shock in the Overwatch League playoffs. The Gladiators have a pretty tough early schedule, but if they can get past that their prospects for the 2020 Overwatch League playoffs are good.
Los Angeles Valiant
- League Standing: #13
- Match Record: 12W-16L
- 2020 Roster: KSF, SHAX, MCGRAVY, DREAMER, APPLY, SLUR, LASTRO
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Fair
2019 wasn’t the Los Angeles Valiant’s year. There was some hope, but then they went out in the Stage 3 Semifinals to the San Francisco Shock. Maybe with victory eluding them for 2 years, the Valiant will be hungry enough to go for the title in 2020.
San Francisco Shock
- League Standing: #3
- Match Record: 23W-5L
- 2020 Roster: SUPER, SINATRAA, ARCHITECT, MOTH, CHOIHYOBIN, SMURF, RASCAL, VIOL2T, STRIKER, ANS
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Excellent
Everyone will be gunning for the reigning Overwatch League champions, but the San Francisco Shock thrive under pressure. Overwatch League’s 2019 MVP Jay “sinatraa” Won and 2019 Grand Finals MVP Choi “ChoiHyoBin” Hyo-Bin make facing the San Francisco Shock an intimidating prospect for any Overwatch League teams in 2020.

Seoul Dynasty
- League Standing: #8
- Match Record: 15W-13L
- 2020 Roster: TOBI, PROFIT, GESTURE, MARVE1, MICHELLE, FITS, ILLICIT, CREATIVE
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Fair
Seoul Dynasty fought their way into the Overwatch League playoffs through the play-in tournament, but unfortunately, they came up against the Vancouver Titans in the first round. Like many other Overwatch League teams, the Dynasty have been busy with trades and retooling in the off season, so there’s a good chance we’ll see them in the playoffs again in 2020.
Shanghai Dragons
- League Standing: #11
- Match Record: 13W-15L
- 2020 Roster: DIYA, GEGURI, DIEM, DDING, LUFFY, ENVY, IZAYAKI, FLETA, LIP, VOID, STAND1, LEEJAEGON
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Fair
The Shanghai Dragons didn’t make it to the 2019 Overwatch League playoffs, but they came very close. The Dragons did manage to pull of some victories against both Vancouver and San Francisco, cementing their place as a team to be reckoned with in 2020.
Vancouver Titans
- League Standing: #1
- Match Record: 25W-3L
- 2020 Roster: SEOMINSOO, TWILIGHT, STITCH, JJANU, SLIME, HAKSAL
- Outlook for 2020 Season: Excellent
Expect 2020 to be another amazing year for this young team. The Vancouver Titans are some real heavyweights, including Kim “Haksal” Hyo-jong who won the Rookie of the Year award, and Minsoo Seo who is currently the 5th-ranked player on Winston’s Lab. Will this Overwatch expansion team be able to keep the magic of their insane 2019 rookie year going? I don’t think it would surprise anyone if the Titans return to the Grand Finals.
